So I should be sleeping right now because our little guy likes to party all night, but I thought I would get the details out of his birth!
I was due the 24th and sure I was going to go over since I had with both girls. This time around I have been having tons of contractions a fews weeks before. I went to my Dr's appt. on the 20th and found out I was dilated to a 4! Yipee! We also made a date to get induced the next morning. It's no secret...I was huge and uncomfortable.
I went home after the Dr. appt and started having stronger contractions but ignored it. Rob had the day off of work, so he stayed at home with Brooklyn during her nap while Ava and I ran errands. After our 3rd store I was really hurting. We were walking around Walmart and I would have to keep stopping to let a contraction pass. It was cute because every time I would stop Ava would come over and put her hand on my stomach! I finally decided I was in too much pain and we headed home.
Rob took the girls out so I could rest and see if the contractions stopped. They ended up getting worse so I called my mom to come in. A little while later my water broke so I called Rob and told him to GET HOME. Rob rushed home and we took off to the hospital. At this point I'm dying. I don't do pain. There is a reason epidurals/pain preventers were invented. For weenies like me.
Once at the hospital it seemed like it took FOREVER to get checked in. I was begging for an epidural as soon as we got there, but the nurse had to ask all these questions and then make sure the Dr. wanted to admit me. (I was now dilated to a 5 and my water had already broke for heaven's sake.) I was not happy at this point. Seriously I can't describe the pain. It was horrible and wretched. And the darn anesthesiologist had 30 minutes till he arrived at the hospital. You know the TV shows where the women go all crazy having babies? I always thought I would never act like that. I was wrong. There was nothing else to do but yell! Suddenly I starting feeling pressure, and the nurse told me to lay down. (I had to stand during the contractions) I couldn't....it hurt too bad but then the nurse started yelling at me to LAY DOWN. She checked me and said "You're going to hate me but it's too late for an epidural, your dilated to a 9." Okay keep in mind this was only about 45 minutes after we had arrived at the hospital.
I of course started crying and begged for anything. Nope....too late. Thank goodness it was time to push. Pain is all I can use to describe this event. Lots and lots of pain. At one point I screamed at the Dr. to GET HIM OUT OF ME!!!!! The Dr. calmly told me to push. I was just thinking "you've got his head just pull him out!"
So I gave it my all, thought I would pass out, and out came our little dude! He was 8 lbs and 5 oz....now that is a big baby! We checked in the hospital at 4:45 pm and he was born at 5:39 pm.
So it's all over. I had the nurses and Dr ask me what method I prefer, natural or epidural. The thought of having another child naturally makes me scared out of my mind, terrified, sick to my stomach. (thank goodness that won't be a worry for a while!!!!) Epidurals are wonderful and the only way to go!
